Denham Springs, LA – Denham Springs City Court Judge Jerry Denton, Jr., (Republican) has announced he is seeking re-election to his judicial seat in the Nov. 3 election. Early Voting is Oct. 20-27.
Denton has a life-long career in public service. He worked as a homicide detective before finishing law school to practice criminal and civil law. He worked as a special prosecutor for the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office, as the Assistant Attorney General Special Legal Counsel, and as Director of Louisiana Attorney General’s White Collar Public Corruption Section. Denton is also licensed to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Denton served as the Denham Springs Marshal from 2009 to 2016. During his tenure, he was awarded the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and was inducted into the Southern Judicial Hall of Fame and named a member of the Southern University Alumni Hall of Fame.
He also served three years as a Denham Springs City Council Member, from 2006 to 2009. During that time, he worked with then Mayor Jimmy Durbin to bring Bass Pro Shops to Denham Springs and to construct a new wastewater treatment plant to enable the city to meet EPA requirements and support the community’s growth.
Denton is an inaugural member of Leadership Livingston, which is sponsored by the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce. He also served as an elected member of the Livingston Parish Republican Party’s Executive Committee and the Republica State Central Committee.
“It has always been my honor to serve the people of Denham Springs and to do what I can to have a positive impact on our community. I have always believed that true leadership is serving others, and integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking. I pledge that I will continue to be a judge with a servant’s heart who seeks justice for all that come before my court,” Denton said.
“I respectfully ask voters for their support and vote. I look forward to continuing my service and addressing important work that still lies ahead,” he said.
Denton holds esteem among several professional law organizations, including the American Trial Lawyers Association, National Federal Bar Association, George Henry McMahon American Inns of Court, American Association for Justice, National Notary Association, and Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity.
He is also a member of the National Rifle Association, Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce, Denham Springs Kiwanis Club, Denham Springs Masonic Lodge and Delta Signa Phi. He attends First Baptist Church of Denham Springs.
He is married to Michelle Henderson Denton (28 years), who is principal of Gray’s Creek Elementary School, and he is father to Trey and Elle Denton.
